As reaffirmed by Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, all nations engaged in the fight against international jihadist terrorism can no longer delay the designation of the Iranian regime’s primary military force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as a terrorist organization.
The IRGC represents the true core of power in Iran, exercising direct control over the economy, finance, banking, the oil sector, and the military nuclear program, which has been conducted clandestinely for decades. Even the appointments of Presidents and high-ranking government officials are an exclusive product of the Revolutionary Guards.
Furthermore, through a dense network of proxy militias across the Middle East, the Revolutionary Guards fuel international terrorism by maintaining operational direction over major terrorist organizations, including Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Kataib Hezbollah, and the Houthis. It is no coincidence that recent joint operations between the USA and Israel have targeted the military leadership of these groups, who are responsible for heinous terrorist attacks in the Middle East and beyond.
For many years, the primary forces of resistance against the mullahs’ regime have vigorously called for the IRGC to be recognized, sanctioned, and prosecuted as a highly dangerous global terrorist organization. To date, the United States, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Paraguay have adopted such measures.
Since the earliest days of the uprising, it has emerged that the IRGC organized the extensive recruitment of jihadist groups—from Afghanistan, Lebanon, Iraq, and other countries—to atrociously suppress the demand for a free and democratic Iran voiced by tens of millions of Iranians across the country.
In recent hours, the EU, through Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, announced: “We stand with the Iranian people; we will propose new sanctions against the Pasdaran.” According to the most respected experts on Iranian affairs, the inclusion of the IRGC on the list of terrorist organizations is a decision that can no longer wait.
