The global system is facing a period of profound tension, in which the norms governing the world order are being severely tested by major autocracies: China, Russia, and Iran. Against this backdrop, peace, security, and human rights are often treated in isolation or—worse—instrumentalized to advance interests that have nothing to do with peace or the protection of fundamental rights.
The conference aims, first and foremost, to reaffirm the centrality and indivisibility of the structural triad comprising peace, security, and human rights, while exploring the theoretical and practical links between them. Secondly, by applying this reflection to current events, the conference will focus on the Mediterranean and the Indo-Mediterranean—a strategic crossroads where global geopolitical tensions, migration flows, and trade and energy routes intersect.
Furthermore, the conference will analyze Italy’s role in the Mediterranean, with particular reference to initiatives it has promoted—such as the Mattei Plan—and those in which it plays a leading role, such as the IMEC infrastructure corridor.
The event is promoted by Global Committee for the Rule of Law “Marco Pannella”, Fondazione Luigi Einaudi, Istituto Gino Germani, Comitato Atlantico Italiano, Hands Off Cain.
