On the occasion of the third anniversary of the Hamas-led massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023, the presentation of the book “The New Blood Libel: The Genesis of Modern Antisemitism” will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Sala Capitolare of the Senate (Piazza della Minerva 38, Rome).
The event is promoted by Senator Giulio Terzi in collaboration with Il Riformista and the GCRL. The book is edited by Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, with a preface by Fiamma Nirenstein and an introduction by Claudio Velardi, Director of Il Riformista, the daily newspaper with which the volume is distributed in Italy.
Among the numerous defamatory tropes directed against the Jewish people is the “blood libel,” an antisemitic myth portraying Jews as abducting children to murder them for blood used in religious rituals. Building upon this falsehood, the author examines the current media landscape and the widespread disinformation produced to delegitimize Israel. As Fiamma Nirenstein writes in her preface, Ambassador Leiter’s book “guides us through a figure-by-figure revelation of how heavily we have been bombarded by lies, and how timid we have been in responding to the blend of ferocity and politics weaponized to destroy the truth.”
