Ezechia Paolo Reale

Born in Syracuse, Italy, in October 1960, he passed away in January 2024. Ezechia Reale was a criminal lawyer and Secretary General of the International Institute of Syracuse for Criminal Justice and Human Rights. He worked as a lawyer since 1985, appearing before the Court of Cassation, the Labor Chamber of the Italian Superior Association of Justice, and the European Court of Human Rights.

In 1997, Ezechia Reale became a member of the Scientific Regional Committee of the Syracuse Institute and in the same year became a researcher at the International Institute for Human Rights at DePaul University College of Law in Chicago.

In the following years, he participated in the work of the Preparatory Committee for the establishment of an International Criminal Court. He contributed to the study that led to the conceptual definition of the right to know, laying the groundwork for the internatioanl recognition of theright to know. He chaired the Scientific Council of the Global Committee for the Rule of Law – Marco Pannella since 2017, succeeding his mentor, Prof. Cherif Bassiouni, who passed away that same year.
